We're in the making a mess phase of beautifying Ora Wah. In order to fix a few leaks and redo the gelcoat, we're taking all the hardware out of the deck. This also involves removing the ceiling panels so we can refill the old holes with epoxy. We're also finding some rotten wood to replace along the way. It's a huge project, but it needs to be done. Can't wait until we're at the kiwi grip phase of this project. #svorawah #tayana37 #boatwork #cruiserslife⛵️

Since Ora Wah is in a marina and we need to go bet

Since Ora Wah is in a marina and we need to go between Kemah and Austin a lot, we needed a vehicle. Boat projects means it needed to be able to hold a lot, so we bought a very used Dodge Grand Caravan.

She may have Texas plates, but Beth made sure our home state pride shows through. She also named her Minneheehee, but you can call her Minne in honor of Minnehaha, Kirsten Neuschäfer's boat for the 2022 Golden Globe race

We had hoped to save the trim on Ora Wah's deck, mainly because removing it will be a lot of work and it looks nice when the wood is good. But, after years, maybe a decade, of it being ignored, our efforts weren't paying off.

So, in order to get rid of bad wood and hopefully stop some leaks, the trim is coming off. Additionally, all the deck hardware is getting removed so the deck can be repaired and repainted #svorawah #tayana37

While Dan is hard at work in the school, Beth is making good use of our rental car and emptying Ora Wah. We have projects all over the boat and they'll just be easier with all this stuff out of the way #svorawah

Good thing removing the boom and inspecting it is on our massive projects list. It rained so hard and for so long before we left Galveston yesterday that our boom was draining water for over 2 hours. It made for a wet ride for Dan as captain, for sure

814 miles across the Gulf of Mexico, a fun storm w

814 miles across the Gulf of Mexico, a fun storm with 36 knot winds, a few feathered stowaways (and one damn mouse from Florida!) and a cool picture from a friend on an oil rig later, and we're resting in Galveston before sailing Ora Wah to Kemah and home.

We averaged just under 4.3 knots - not bad for fully half the trip with under 10 knots of wind. The old Perkins engine got a workout! Repaired the transmission oil cooler, the bowman heat exchanger, and lost our temp sensor by day 6. Always an adventure!

Unsettled weather in the Gulf of Mexico has led to another extended stay, this time in Clearwater. We've spent time with our oldest nephew and his girlfriend, replaced our nonfunctional VHF radio (stopped working on the sail from the Dominican Republic), and playing a round of miniature golf. While traveling through an area with reefs and heavy shoaling of the gulf floor, we came upon these random waves. We realized they weren't shallow spots, but were in fact shoals of fish having frisky times. This was after we went through a section of water that looked like it had lots of gold glitter in it.
